Traffic Officer
Pegawai Polis Trafik (JSPT)
"This highly visible sector focuses on the absolute control of the nation's roadways. It involves the aggressive enforcement of traffic laws, the management of massive highway congestion, and the grim investigation of fatal road accidents."
The Career Story
Traffic Police Officers (JSPT) are the masters of the asphalt. They ride heavy motorcycles to intercept reckless drivers, manage massive city gridlock, and perform the deeply traumatic work of investigating horrific highway fatalities.
A highly glamorous part of the job is the "Outrider" unit. These elite motorcyclists ride massive Honda or BMW superbikes, weaving through highway traffic at 150 km/h to provide armed escorts for the Prime Minister, royalty, or critical ambulances.
However, the darkest part of the job is accident investigation. When a horrific crash occurs on the PLUS Highway, the Traffic IO (Investigating Officer) must measure the skid marks, calculate the physics of the crash to determine who was at fault, and deal with the screaming, grieving families of the deceased on the side of the road. They are also universally disliked by the public because their primary duty is issuing summonses (saman) to aggressive, entitled drivers.
AI cameras can issue speeding tickets, but AI cannot physically chase down a drunk driver trying to escape a roadblock, nor can it pull a trapped victim out of a burning car. The Traffic Officer requires immense physical bravery, elite riding skills, and a thick skin.
