Sago Plantation Supervisor

Sago is a vital food and industrial starch export, heavily concentrated in Sarawak (particularly the Mukah region). The Sago palm thrives in harsh peat swamp environments where other crops fail. A Sago Supervisor manages the estate workers who brave deep mud, mosquitoes, and harsh conditions to cultivate and harvest these massive palms.

The harvesting process is unique. Unlike palm oil fruits, the entire Sago palm trunk must be chopped down, cut into massive logs, and rolled into man-made canals or rivers. The logs are then tied into rafts and floated down the river to the processing mill.

The supervisor must plan the planting cycles (sago takes 10-12 years to mature), manage the drainage canals to ensure the peat swamp does not dry out or flood, and ensure the safety of workers wielding chainsaws in knee-deep mud. It is a highly specialized agricultural role tied deeply to the economy of East Malaysia.
