High School Counsellor

In the Malaysian secondary school system, the Guru Bimbingan dan Kaunseling (GBK) is often the most important adult in a struggling teenager's life. While regular teachers are forced to focus on the SPM syllabus and grades, the Counsellor focuses entirely on the human being.

Their daily life is an emotionally heavy, deeply confidential triage. A Counsellor's door is always open. They spend their mornings dealing with acute crises: a student having a panic attack over exam stress, a victim of severe cyberbullying, or a teenager revealing abuse at home. They must use advanced psychological techniques (like Cognitive Behavioral Therapy basics) to de-escalate these situations and, when necessary, liaise with the police or the Social Welfare Department (JKM).

Beyond trauma, they are the architects of the students' futures. They conduct psychometric testing (like the Ujian Psikometrik) to help confused 17-year-olds discover their strengths. They guide students through the incredibly complex UPU online system, advising them on which university degrees match their SPM results to ensure they do not ruin their future careers.

AI can match a student's grades to a university course, but AI cannot look a crying, suicidal teenager in the eye, provide genuine human empathy, and convince them that their life is worth living. The profound emotional labor and legal responsibility make this an irreplaceable, heroic profession.
