In Malaysia's healthcare system, operating in major government psychiatric hubs like Hospital Permai or elite private clinical practices, this is an incredibly heavy, legally regulated medical career. Their daily life is dominated by the DSM-5. When a patient is admitted with severe, unexplained behavioral issues, the Psychologist conducts rigorous, multi-hour Clinical Diagnostics. They use complex psychometric testing and behavioral observation to differentiate between severe bipolar disorder, borderline personality disorder, or trauma-induced psychosis. They do not prescribe medication. Instead, they execute intense, long-term Psychotherapy to slowly, agonizingly pull the patient back to reality and equip them with the mental tools to survive their own brain. They often work in Forensic Psychology, advising the police or courts if a violent criminal was legally insane at the time of a crime. AI can flag symptoms from a questionnaire, but AI cannot sit in a locked room with a deeply traumatized, hallucinating patient, intuitively build empathetic trust, and safely de-escalate a severe psychiatric emergency. It is a profoundly heroic, emotionally exhausting, and intellectually supreme career.
