Mutawwif Assistant

Pembantu Mutawwif / Petugas Umrah

"A religious and logistical tourism role responsible for guiding, assisting, and managing Muslim pilgrims performing Umrah and Hajj in Saudi Arabia."

The Career Story

A Mutawwif Assistant helps manage the logistics of Umrah groups, handling luggage, hotel check-ins, and assisting the main Mutawwif in guiding pilgrims through religious rituals in Mecca and Medina.

The Mutawwif Assistant (Petugas Umrah) is the backbone of Islamic religious tourism. With hundreds of thousands of Malaysians performing Umrah annually, travel agencies rely heavily on ground staff to manage the massive logistical undertaking.

Daily work is highly operational and exhausting. Before departure, they assist with passport collection, visa processing, and pre-departure briefings. During the trip (which typically lasts 10-14 days), they manage the group at the airport, herd dozens of pilgrims onto buses, resolve hotel room disputes in Mecca and Medina, and ensure elderly pilgrims are physically assisted. While the certified Mutawwif leads the actual religious recitations (doa) during the Tawaf and Sa'ie, the assistant manages the crowd, ensuring no one gets lost in the massive crowds of the Haramain.

This role requires immense physical stamina, extreme patience (especially when dealing with elderly or demanding travelers), and a deep understanding of Umrah rituals. It is the necessary entry-level step to becoming a fully certified Mutawwif.
