Meteorological Assistant C19 is the boots on the ground for the national weather service. While higher ranking officers analyze data on computer screens, the C19 Assistant is out in the field physically collecting it. Stationed at regional weather stations or airports, they ensure that the raw data feeding into the national forecasting models is accurate and uninterrupted. They are the guardians of the physical meteorological instruments.

Their daily tasks are highly physical and strictly timed. Every few hours, regardless of whether it is scorching hot or pouring rain, they must walk out to the Stevenson screen (the white louvered box at weather stations) to manually read precise thermometers, check rain gauges, and record evaporation levels. A major highlight of their role involves preparing and launching radiosondes (weather balloons) into the upper atmosphere to collect high altitude data. They must also perform basic maintenance to clear debris from sensors and ensure automated stations are transmitting properly.
