Loss Prevention Officer

Pegawai Pencegahan Kerugian

"A specialized retail security role focused on minimizing financial losses caused by customer shoplifting, employee theft, and administrative errors."

The Career Story

A Loss Prevention Officer patrols retail stores in plainclothes, monitors CCTV for shoplifters, investigates employee fraud at the cash register, and conducts inventory audits to save the company money.

Loss Prevention (LP) is a distinct branch of security focused entirely on protecting retail profits (often called "shrinkage"). Unlike a uniformed guard who stands at a door as a visual deterrent, an LP Officer often works in plainclothes (undercover) pretending to be a shopper, or operates from a hidden CCTV room within the store.

Daily tasks are investigative. An LP Officer will watch for specific shoplifting behaviors: customers avoiding eye contact, carrying large empty bags, or taking multiple high-value items into a fitting room. Once a theft is confirmed, they must execute a legally compliant "stop," detain the suspect, and wait for the police.

Crucially, a huge part of LP work is investigating internal theft. They audit cash registers, review video of cashiers voiding receipts, and investigate warehouse staff stealing inventory. This role requires a mix of aggressive physical intervention skills and careful, detail-oriented accounting and auditing skills.
