When a monsoon hits a major city, the only thing stopping billions of ringgit in flood damage is the underground drainage network. The Drainage Specialist is the unseen guardian of this system. They work in brutal, cramped, and often highly unsanitary conditions to ensure water flows freely away from human populations.

Their daily operations involve deploying specialized equipment. They drive massive vacuum trucks (desludging vehicles) to suck up tons of compacted mud, grease, and garbage that choke urban storm drains. They use robotic crawler cameras to inspect deep, inaccessible pipes for structural cracks. When heavy machinery cannot reach the blockage, they must put on protective waders, climb down into the confined concrete culverts, and manually break apart hardened fat-bergs or tangled root systems using shovels and high-pressure water jets.

This is one of the toughest, most essential jobs in urban maintenance. Because subterranean blockages are wildly unpredictable and pipe geometries are highly irregular, AI cannot clear a blocked drain. The threat of climate change and increasingly aggressive monsoon seasons guarantees that skilled drainage specialists will never run out of critical, high-paying work.
